Great Wilbraham 20mph Limit, March – April 2025
There have been many questions and comments about drivers observing or not observing the new 20mph limit through the village. At the time of writing – early May – the limit has been in place for just two months, and although it is early days,
preliminary data from the MVAS units are giving us some hard evidence as to what is going on.
Along with the introduction of the 20mph limit, new posts for the MVAS units and the solar panels were erected at the entrances to the village. These new posts are now on the right sides of the roads facing the oncoming traffic and at the right distance for measuring the speeds of vehicles. In addition, they enable a more accurate vehicle count. Immediately on the installation of the new posts, it was necessary to mount the MVAS units there to charge the batteries in the units.
Only one of the new posts, that in The Lanes, is within the 20mph limit, and at the present time there are only limited data on the effect of the 20mph limit within the village. I will come back to this at the end of the report.
Finally, although we wanted to share the data as soon as possible, these have not been typical times. The level crossing at Fulbourn has been closed for the entire period covered by this report, and the period also included the Easter holidays.
